Celebrex
What is Celebrex used for? Celebrex is a prescription
medication that's used to treat several different kinds of pain including
acute pain, menstrual pain, osteoarthritis, and adult rheumatoid
arthritis.
How does Celebrex work? Celebrex helps relieve pain by
blocking the action of the COX-2 enzyme. The COX-2 enzyme is what causes
pan and inflammation in joints.
How is Celebrex different than other pain medications?
Celebrex blocks the COX-2 while leaving the COX-1 enzyme unharmed. As a
result, it's less likely to cause irritation to your stomach.
When should I take Celebrex? If you're prescribed
Celebrex on a daily basis, take it every day. Maintaining a consistent
level of Celebrex in your body will help you manage your pain better.
Also, take Celebrex at the same time each day. That way you'll be less
likely to forget your dose.
How much Celebrex should I take? Doses vary depending
on the condition. For acute pain, the recommended startup dose is 400 mg
initially, followed by an additional 200 mg dose on the first day if
needed. For osteoarthritis, the normal startup dose is one 200 mg dose a
day or one 100 mg dose twice daily. And for adult rheumatoid arthritis the
recommended startup dose is 100 to 200 mg twice daily.
Do I need to take Celebrex with food? No. You can take
Celebrex with or without food.
Who should not take Celebrex? You should not take
Celebrex if you:
- Are allergic to celecoxib, the active ingredient in Celebrex.
- Have had allergic reactions to drugs called sulfonamides.
- Have experienced asthma, hives, or allergic reactions after taking
aspirin or other NSADS.
- Are late in pregnancy.
What should I tell my doctor? Before you start taking
Celebrex, tell your doctor your complete medical history. Be sure to
mention any medical conditions you might have as well as any prescription
and/or over the counter drugs you are taking.
Can I take Celebrex if I'm pregnant or nursing? There
are no studies of Celebrex in pregnant or nursing women. If you are
pregnant or nursing talk to your doctor about the potential risks involved
with taking Celebrex.
Are there any side effects with Celebrex? As with most
pain medications, there are some side effects associated with Celebrex. In
clinical studies the most commonly reported side effects with Celebrex
were indigestion, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, serious
stomach problems such as bleeding can occur without warning. Please note
the percentage of patients who stopped taking Celebrex due to side effects
was similar to that seen with the placebo (sugar pill).
What if I miss a dose? If you forget to take Celebrex,
don't double up on your dose. Instead, skip it, and continue with your
next scheduled one.
Cialis
What is Cialis? Cialis is a prescription medication that treats
impotence. Cialis is a fairly new drug and has not been approved by the
FDA yet.
How does Cialis work? Cialis Works just like Viagra by blocking
an enzyme called phosphodiesterase-5 or PDE-5. This helps relax the smooth
muscles in the penis and causes the arteries to expand and widen allowing
for more blood to enter.
Are there any differences between Cialis and Viagra? Yes there
are several differences between the two treatments. Compared to Viagra,
Cialis comes in a much smaller dose. As a result it produces far less
occurrences of side effects. Cialis also works faster than Viagra. In
clinical trials patients who took Cialis were able to achieve erections in
30 minutes. That's 30 minutes faster than Viagra.
Is there anything else I should know about Cialis? Cialis
targets the PDE5 receptors better than Viagra. As a result Cialis produces
no adverse side effects on vision or the heart.
Is Cialis effective? Yes very effective. Approximately 88% of
men who take Cialis will experience improvement with their erections.
How do I take Cialis? The normal recommended dose is one 10 mg
or 20 mg tablet at least 15 minutes prior to sexual stimulation.
Does Cialis produce any side effects? Yes. In clinical testing
the most common side effects reported were muscle pain, headache, upset
stomach, and back pain.
Clarityn / Loratadine
What is Loratadine? Loratadine is a non-sedating
prescription antihistamine that prevents sneezing, runny nose, itchy
watery eyes, and other allergy symptoms.
How does Loratadine work? Loratadine works by blocking
the action of histamines. Histamines are chemicals in the body that
produce all the unpleasant symptoms associated with allergies including
sneezing, itching, and congestion. By blocking the action of histamines,
your immune system no longer reacts to allergens, which means no more
allergies!
How is Loratadine different than over-the-counter
antihistamines? Unlike over-the-counter antihistamines,
Loratadine will not make you drowsy. That's because Loratadine doesn't
enter your central nervous system like other allergy medications. So it's
safe to use even during the daytime.
Who shouldn't take Loratadine? You may not be able to
take Loratadine, or you may require special monitoring during treatment if
you have kidney or liver disease.
Can I take Loratadine if I'm pregnant or nursing? If
you are pregnant or nursing DO NOT take Loratadine without first
consulting with your doctor.
Is Loratadine safe to take with other
medicines? There are no known drug interactions between
Loratadine and other medications.
Are there side effects? In clinical studies the most
common side effects that were reported with Loratadine were headache, dry
mouth, dry nose, hoarseness, and fatigue. These side effects are generally
mild and tend to go away as your body gets adjusted to the medication.
NOTE: If you experience more serious side effects such as allergic
reaction, rapid or pounding heartbeat, dizziness, diarrhea, nervousness,
wheezing, stomach pain, unusual weakness, or hyperactivity, stop taking
Loratadine and seek emergency medical attention.
What should I avoid while taking Loratadine? Avoid
potentially hazardous activities like driving until you' know how your
body will react to this medicine. When used as directed, Loratadine should
not produce any symptoms of drowsiness or dizziness.
Ciprofloxacin
What is Ciprofloxacin? Ciprofloxacin is a powerful
antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body.
What is Ciprofloxacin used for? Ciprofloxacin is
frequently used to treat infections of the skin, lungs, airways, bones,
and joints. However, the most common use for Ciprofloxacin is the
treatment of urinary tract infections.
How should I take Ciprofloxacin? Your symptoms may
start to improve before the infection is completely gone. Therefore, you
should take all the Ciprofloxacin that has been prescribed to you, even if
you begin to feel better. The normal prescribed dose for Ciprofloxacin is
one tablet twice a day with or without food. For best results, take
Ciprofloxacin tablets at the same time each day: once in the morning and
once in the evening.
Is Ciprofloxacin safe for everyone? Ciprofloxacin is
well tolerated by most patients. However, if you have kidney disease,
seizures, or if you are pregnant or nursing you should not take
Ciprofloxacin without first consulting with your doctor.
What should I avoid during treatment? During your
treatment with Ciprofloxacin, you should limit your consumption of
caffeine. Ciprofloxacin can increase the effects of caffeine, which might
cause rapid heartbeat. Also, use caution when performing potentially
hazardous activities like driving. Ciprofloxacin may cause dizziness
and/or drowsiness in some patients.
What else should I know about taking Ciprofloxacin?
You should take antacids and supplements containing calcium,
iron, and zinc at least 6 hours before or 2 hours after your dose of
Ciprofloxacin. These products are known to decrease the effectiveness of
Ciprofloxacin by up to 90%. Also, avoid dairy products and/or
calcium-fortified juices.
What happens if I miss a dose? If you miss a dose of
Ciprofloxacin, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for
your next scheduled dose, skip it and continue with the next one.
What happens if I overdose? If you take too much
Ciprofloxacin, seek medical attention immediately. The most common symptom
of overdose is seizures.
Are there any side effects? In clinical trials, the
most commonly reported side effects with Ciprofloxacin were nausea,
vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness,
insomnia, ringing in the ears, and/or increased sensitivity of the skin to
sunlight. These side effects were mild in nature and did not require
patients to stop treatment.
If any of the following side effects occur during treatment, stop
taking Ciprofloxacin and seek emergency medical attention: allergic
reaction, seizures, confusion, hallucinations, liver damage (yellowing of
the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain, unusual bleeding or bruising,
severe fatigue), muscle or joint pain, chest pain, shortness of breath,
and/or swelling of the legs and feet.
Eudyna / Retin A
What is Eudyna? Eudyna is a prescription cream that
helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Eudyna also helps
get rid of age spots.
How does Eudyna work? Eudyna does two things to help
you achieve a more youthful looking appearance. First it helps reduce the
appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by increasing the production of
collagen. Collagen is a fibrous protein that makes up 75% of our skin.
Secondly it lightens age spots by replacing outer, flat, dry skin cells
with newer healthier ones.
What should I tell my doctor before I begin using
Eudyna? Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing. Also let
your doctor know if you have any skin conditions such as dermatitis,
seborrheic, eczema, and/or sunburned skin.
How do I use Eudyna? Make sure the area is clean
before you apply Eudyna. For best results, apply Eudyna at nighttime just
after showering. Pat the skin dry then wait 20 to 30 minutes. Apply a
small pea-sized amount and spread evenly throughout the treated area.
Remember to wash your hands immediately afterwards to remove any medicine
that still remains.
What if I miss a dose? If you miss dose, skip it and
continue with your regular schedule.
Is Eudyna safe to take with skin care products? DO NOT
use Eudyna with other skin care products that contain peeling agents such
as benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid, or sulfur. Also, avoid
products with high concentrations of alcohol like shaving creams.
Are there any side effects? As with any skin treatment
product, there may be side effects. Some of the most common side effects
associated with Eudyna include burning, redness, stinging, and peeling of
the skin. In rare cases, discoloration might occur where the cream is
applied. These side effects are temporary and go away once your treatment
is finished. If side effects become bothersome, consult with your doctor.
Sometimes applying an oil-based cream or lotion to the affected area can
alleviate any discomfort.
Levitra
What is Levitra? Levitra is a prescription treatment
for male erectile dysfunction.
How does Levitra work? Levitra works by increasing
blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. Research has shown that
poor circulation is one of the major reasons why men experience impotence.
Will Levitra work the first time? Chances are, Levitra
will work the very first time you take it. In clinical studies, 77 percent
of men who took Levitra were able to achieve penetration on their first
attempt.
How well does it work? Research indicates that 85%-91%
of patients experience improvement after taking Levitra.
How do I take Levitra? Take one 10 mg or 20 mg tablet
at least 25 to 60 minutes before engaging in sexual activity.
Is Levitra safe for everyone? Levitra is not a safe
treatment option for men who take medications containing nitrates (such as
glycerol trinitrate for angina), have severe heart or liver problems, are
receiving kidney dialysis treatments, have recently had a stroke or heart
attack, have low blood pressure, or have a history of degenerative eye
disease (such as retinitis pigmentosa).
What should I tell my doctor? Before you take Levitra,
tell your doctor if you have heart problems, sickle cell disease, multiple
myeloma, leukaemia, stomach ulcers, bleeding disorder (such as
haemophilia), physical condition that affects the shape of your penis
(such as Peyronie's disease), or any illness that causes erections that
won't go away (such as priapism).
Are there any medications I shouldn't take with
Levitra? DO NOT take Levitra with nitrates (medicines for
angina), Retonavir or Indinavir (medicines for HIV), Ketoconazole or
Itraconazole (anti-fungal medicines), Erythromycin (antibiotic),
Alph-blockers (blood pressure medications).
Are there any side effects? Common side effects of
Levitra include headaches, flushing, indigestion, nausea, dizziness,
and/or blocked or runny nose.
Propecia
What is male pattern baldness ? Male pattern baldness is a
common condition in men that results in a receding hairline and/or balding
on the top of the head.
What does Propecia do for a man with male pattern baldness?
Propecia works in two ways: (1) to prevent any further hair loss, thus
maintaining current scalp hairs, and (2) to increase the number of scalp
hairs.
How effective is Propecia? Studies have shown Propecia to be
about 80% effective in preventing future hair loss and about 40% to 50%
effective in restoring hair growth already lost.
What is the recommended daily dosage of Propecia? The
recommended dosage for Propecia is 1 mg a day.
What will happen if I take more than 1 mg a day? The maximum
effective dosage of Propecia is 1 mg a day. Taking more than 1 mg a day
does not make the drug work any faster. You will get the same effect no
matter if you take 1 mg a day or more. This is true even if you missed
taking your dosage one day. So if you miss taking a pill one day, you will
get no better results taking 2 mg the next day compared to taking your
regular 1 mg dosage. Taking more than 1 mg a day for any reason will not
bring you any additional benefits and is a waste of money.
What are the side effects of Propecia for men? The side effects
are: a decrease in the ability to achieve an erection, a decrease in the
desire for sex, and a decrease in the production of sperm.
How does Propecia effect tests for possible prostate problems in
men? As men get older, they should be screened periodically for
prostate cancer. One of the ways this is done is by a blood test called
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test. Men taking Propecia may have their
PSA level in their blood lowered by 50%. Thus, the doctor must be told if
you are taking Propecia so that he or she may adjust the results of your
PSA test accordingly.
May males below 18 years of age take Propecia? No. Propecia
works on adult men only.
May women take Propecia? No. Propecia works on adult men
only.
Prozac
What is Prozac? Prozac is the most widely prescribed
antidepressant in the world. More than 40 million people have taken Prozac
to treat their depression. Prozac works by increasing levels of serotonin
in the brain. Serotonin is a chemical messenger that helps control our
sleep patterns, our appetite cravings, and the way we feel emotionally.
Studies show that increasing the availability of serotonin can greatly
reduce symptoms of depression.
Is Prozac Safe? Prozac selectively targets serotonin
without affecting any other chemicals in the brain. As a result, there are
fewer side effects than with other treatments for depression.
When will I start to feel better? Results vary. Some
patients will notice improvement within the first week. For others it may
take up to four weeks or longer.
How long should I take Prozac? Your doctor must
determine your length of treatment. Normally, patients take Prozac
anywhere from 6 to 12 months. However, your doctor may advise you to
continue treatment if you have reoccurring feelings of depression.
Is Prozac approved for people 65 or older? Yes. Prozac
is one of the only antidepressants approved to treat depression in
patients 65 and older.
What should I avoid while taking Prozac? While taking
Prozac you should avoid alcohol. Drinking alcohol while taking any
antidepressant can impair your ability to think clearly and may affect
your motor skills. Also, use caution when driving. Prozac may cause
dizziness and/or drowsiness in some patients. You should only drive when
you are absolutely certain Prozac has not impaired your judgment.
Can I use Prozac if I'm pregnant or nursing? It's not
known whether or not the active ingredient in Prozac is harmful to an
unborn fetus or nursing baby. Therefore, if you are pregnant or nursing,
talk to your doctor about taking Prozac before you begin treatment.
Does Prozac produce any side effects? Common side
effects of Prozac include nausea, difficulty sleeping, drowsiness,
anxiety, nervousness, weakness, and loss of appetite, tremors, dry mouth,
sweating, decreased sex drive, impotence, and/or yawning. NOTE: These side
effects normally go away within the first few weeks. Other more serious
side effects that require you to stop treatment include allergic reaction,
irregular heartbeat or pulse, chills or fever, unusual bleeding or
bruising, and/or changes in blood pressure (high or low).
Reductil
What is Reductil? Reductil is a medication prescribed by doctors
for the treatment of obesity.
How does Reductil work? Reductil works like other appetite
suppressants on the market by increasing the amount of serotonin and
catecholamine in the brain. Serotonin and catecholamine are two important
chemicals that control mood and appetite. When levels of serotonin and
catecholamine are raised, your appetite decreases.
Who should take Reductil? Reductil is prescribed to patients who
are clinically obese. In order to be clinically obese you must have a body
mass index (BMI) of 30 percent or higher. You should not take Reductil if
you suffer from seizure disorders, high blood pressure, heart problems,
liver disease, kidney disease, glaucoma, gallstones, or if you have a
history of stroke. Also you should not take Reductil if you are pregnant
or nursing, or if you are taking MAO inhibitors to treat depression.
How effective is Reductil in treating obesity? Clinical studies
have revealed that patients who follow a sensible diet and take Reductil
can lose as much as 11 pounds in 6 months.

signals from one brain neuron to another. When serotonin is low, it often
affects mood.
What conditions does Seroxat treat? Seroxat is
approved for the treatment of Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder
(GAD), Social Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive
Disorder (OCD), and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
When do I take Seroxat? Seroxat can be taken once a
day in the morning or evening.
How long do I have to take Seroxat? The Agency for
Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) recommends that treatment with
antidepressants should last anywhere from 6 to 12 months. However,
individual results and needs vary. Therefore, it's important that you let
your doctor know how you're your feeling during the course of treatment.
Is Seroxat addictive? Seroxat belongs in a class of
medications called SSRIs, which have not been shown to be associated with
addiction.
How much Seroxat should I take? The normal startup
dose for most patients is one 10 mg or 20 mg tablet daily. For people over
the age of 65, people with kidney problems or people with compromised
liver conditions, the initial dose is 10 mg a day. Remember, only your
doctor can decide how much Seroxat you should take and for how long.
Can I take Seroxat with other medications? Before you
begin using Seroxat, let your doctor know about any prescription and/or
over the counter medications you are taking. Seroxat is not safe to take
with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). If you have taken MAOIs for
depression within the last 14 days DO NOT take Seroxat. Serious
complications can occur.

What should I avoid during treatment? DO NOT take
antacids with Telfast. Antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium such as
Rolaids, Maalox, and Pepcid Complete can decrease the effectiveness of
Telfast.
Uprima
What is Uprima? Uprima is a prescription medication that helps
treat impotence in men.
How does Uprima work? Uprima helps you achieve erections by
increasing levels of dopamine and nitric oxide in your body. This makes it
easier for you to signal an erection, and it widens blood vessels in the
penis allowing for more blood to enter.
Who shouldn't take Uprima? If you are taking medications
containing nitrates DO NOT take Uprima. Nitrates are used to treat chest
pains in heart patients. The combination can result in serious
complications. Also, if you are taking medications that affect dopamine
levels talk to your doctor about taking Uprima.
